2,000 apply for 150 clearing places at Huddersfield University

THOUSANDS of young people are scrambling for a handful of places at the University of Huddersfield.

Spokeswoman Jenny Grainger said demand for places since Thursday’s A Level results had been “absolutely incredible”.

The university, which will welcome 5,700 first-year students next month, has just 150 clearing spaces for people who didn’t get into their first choice course.

Ms Grainger said: “We had 2,000 calls on Thursday. There were more calls by lunchtime on Thursday than we had during the whole clearing process last year.

“We’ve had an absolutely incredible clearing process, it’s been by far the busiest for years.”

Ms Grainger said demand for clearing places at Huddersfield seemed to be higher than at other universities.

She said: “We’re hearing anecdotally that we’ve been a lot busier than other places.
