Ghulam Mustafa, 3, died chasing a ball into the road in Ravensthorpe

A FAMILY visit turned to tragedy when a toddler was killed in a road accident.

Two-year-old Ghulame Mustafa Bilal was knocked down on Charles Street in Ravensthorpe after chasing a ball into the road.

The toddler had travelled with parents Aneela and Bilal as well as an elder sister and brother from Birmingham to see family who live on the road.

A crowd of relatives and friends gathered at the house yesterday to console the family following Thursday’s incident.

Ghulame’s funeral took place and an inquest was opened and adjourned.

Ghulame’s uncle, Tariq Hussain, said: “The kids were playing outside and a ball went into the road. There were cars parked at the side of the road and he just shot out between them and was hit by a white van coming down the road. There was nothing the driver could do.

“He was a very bright lad. It’s a huge shock, a tragedy. His parents are struggling to come to terms with it. They can’t get over it.”

He added: “My niece was playing with him and saw it all happen.
