Ghulam Mustafa, 3, died chasing a ball into the road in Ravensthorpe
“The police asked her for a statement but she couldn’t talk about it.”
It is believed the family had only arrived in Ravensthorpe earlier on Thursday.
Ghulame was knocked down at about 3pm before being rushed to Dewsbury and District Hospital.
He was later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary but died in the early hours of Friday from serious head injuries.
Flowers were laid at the scene yesterday.
Kirklees councillor Mumtaz Hussain, whose Dewsbury West ward covers Ravensthorpe, is Ghulam’s uncle.
He said: “Ghulame is my sister’s son. Everyone is devastated.
“This was just one of those things, but it is a tragedy.”
Police want to talk to witnesses and anyone else with information about the incident. They should call Kirklees North Road Policing Unit on 01924 206346.
