Simon Armitage song to back Huddersfield Giants

Simon's Giant poem
13 men
There’s thirteen men standing in my way,
thirteen men on the field of play,
there’s nothing but grass between me and them,
nothing but grass and me and thirteen men,
and all I want is on the other side.
Thirteen men who wanna kick my hide.
I’ve got eighty minutes on red alert,
I won’t lie to you, THIS IS GONNA HURT
Let fate and fortune and strength decide
I’m gonna stagger forward with all my might
through waves of heat or summer rain
and I don’t know if I’m ever coming back again.
Thirteen men are gonna have their say,
thirteen men trying to spoil my day,
who want to grind my dreams into dust and dirt
I won’t lie to you, THIS IS GONNA HURT.
Daylight beckons across the divide,
every bone in my body wants to cross that line,
but there’s thirteen men stood like an iron gate,
tell the one I love that I’m gonna be late.
Thirteen men got me in their sights,
tell the kids in the corner to cover their eyes,
because thirteen men are gonna shred my shirt
I won’t lie to you, THIS IS GONNA HURT.
(chanted chorus)
THIRTEEN MEN
UNLUCKY FOR SOME
STEEL YOUR HEART
THIS IS GONNA HURT
