Fans gather at the University of Huddersfield to wish the Huddersfield Giants luck on their trip to Wembley

THEY’RE on their way – hopefully to Wembley glory!

And there were cheers from hundreds of fans as the Huddersfield Giants set off on the road to Wembley.

Fans gathered at Huddersfield University to see them off ahead of tomorrow’s historic Carnegie Challenge Cup final against the Warrington Wolves.

But for many it wasn’t just a case of farewell and good luck.

Supporters from all over town will be making the trip down to London this weekend to support their club.

An estimated 20,000 will be backing Nathan Brown’s team as they take to the field shortly before 2.30pm.

Among those flying the distinctive claret and gold-coloured flag will be life-long fan Sarah Dickinson from Holmfirth.

The mother-of-four was at the university to wave the team off before heading down to Wembley with partner Richard Hardy and kids Georgia, 10 and Darren Rhodes, 14.

Sarah, 32, said: “I feel a bit nervous – we haven’t spoken about who’s going to win because I don’t want to jinx it.

“I think we’ll win though – I’ve got my fingers crossed.”

Sarah became a Giants fan through her late father Barry.

She told the Examiner she wished he could be there at the momentous game tomorrow.

She said: “I grew up watching Fartown and my dad did too, and then I got my kids into it.’’

John Surtees, from Dalton, took the day off work to go down to wish the players luck.
