Huddersfield firms urged to support Backing Young Britain campaign

HUDDERSFIELD bosses have been urged to support a job-creating campaign.
Yorkshire employers are among more than 150 UK organisations to throw their weight behind Backing Young Britain – a campaign to create new employment and training opportunities for thousands of young people in the recession.
Government and employers are pledging an extra 85,000 opportunities for young people.
Among them, Bradford-based Morrisons is pledging new training for all of its 36,000 employees aged under 25 while the Government is helping to get 45,000 young people into jobs in retailing, tourism, leisure and hospitality.
Others backing the campaign include Leeds-based Asda, energy giant Centrica, Royal Mail and MIcrosoft.
Huddersfield employers can take part by signing up to a Local Employment Partnership, which means Jobcentre Plus will help them find the right person for their vacancies through sifting through applications, organising pre-employment training and work trials.
The Government said more than 230,000 unemployed people have been helped into jobs so far through LEPs – including more than 7,000 in West Yorkshire – while more than 25,000 employers had signed up to work with Jobcentre Plus.
In July, the Government announced the first 47,000 jobs from the £1bn Future Jobs Fund, which will create 100,000 new jobs targeted at young people.
Kirklees Council is bidding to create about 300 jobs with partners including Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, the Bradley-based National Day Nurseries Association and West Yorkshire Probation Service.
