A MURDER investigation has been launched in Huddersfield after the body of a man was found in Clayton West last night. Police were contacted at 10.24pm reporting the body of a man in a lay by on Litherop Lane. Officers attended the scene and found the man with what are believed to be gunshot wounds. The dead man is believed to be aged in his 40’s from the Wakefield area; however he has not been formally identified at this time. The scene remains cordoned off today and scenes for crime officers are carrying out forensic enquiries. A post mortem is due to be carried later in order to establish the cause of death. Detectives are today continuing to carry out enquiries in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death. Detective Superintendent Chris Thompson, who is leading the investigation said: “The motive behind the man’s death is unclear at this time and we are keeping an open mind, however we believe he suffered gun shot wounds. “I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of Litherop Lane yesterday evening who may have seen any suspicious activity. “Where you driving through this secluded area and saw or heard anything unusual?, if so I want to hear from you.” Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 606 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
