MP Barry Sheerman opposes Asda plan for Huddersfield

PLANS for an Asda store on Huddersfield’s ring road were labelled a “disaster” by the town’s MP.
Barry Sheerman has tabled strong objections to the plan in a submission to Kirklees Council, which is considering the retail giant’s £40m plan.
And he repeated his objections at a meeting of the Town First group – formed after rivals Tesco tabled plans for the Southgate part of the ring road.
Asda want to build the store on land edged by Queensgate, Chapel Hill and Milford Street.
The site is currently in use by engineering firm Thomas Broadbents, which plans to use just part of its factory.
But Mr Sheerman, who has already led protests about the Tesco plan, is far from happy.
