Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik vows to fight lap dance plan

DEWSBURY MP Shahid Malik has said he is furious about a lap dancing club opening in the town.
Last week councillors on Kirklees Licensing Panel gave night club boss Paul Wood the green light to host lap dancers in his new club Forbidden.
The club is to be housed in the former Green’s Nite Scene premises on Bradford Road.
The venue is now allowed to offer lap dancing and pole dancing until 3am on Friday and Saturday 2am on Thursday and Sunday nights.
But Mr Malik has slammed the potential development and has vowed to launch a petition against its launch.
He said: “After having campaigned vigorously to regenerate the town centre the prospect of having a lap dancing club would be a tragic set back which would damage the image of Dewsbury.
“We do not want to cultivate an image of a seedy town but rather a family orientated town where children and parents can shop and play in a relaxed, safe environment.
“It is this friendly image that will attract investors, not a late night lap dance club.”
“If this is allowed to develop then Dewsbury could become a magnet for the sex industry which would be a disaster.
“Local people are outraged by the proposal for a lap dancing club and I have started a petition against the club.”
