Conlon on crime: Take care of your card
Oct 14 2009 by Sam Casey, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
KEEP your wits about you when you’re withdrawing money from cash machines.
There are some clever criminals around who don’t need a second invitation to take advantage of a moment of carelessness.
One of the men pictured in today’s column is wanted for questioning following a theft outside the Natwest bank at Market Place in Huddersfield.
A customer was at the cash machine withdrawing money when he was told by another man that he was using the machine incorrectly.
In a moment of confusion, the suspect took the man’s card from the machine but told him it had been swallowed by the dispenser.
After going into the branch to report the matter, the customer discovered another £240 had been withdrawn, but by that time the suspect had left.
The thief was white, about 5ft 10ins tall and in his late 20s.
Anyone who recognises the man pictured should call Pc Anne Gilliver via 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
