Huddersfield man's stereo confiscated as neighbours' floors vibrate

A MAN made life hell for his neighbours by playing music so loud their floors vibrated.

Jonathan Barrett, of Church Avenue, Crosland Moor, plagued his neighbours with earsplitting tunes.

Huddersfield Magistrates heard yesterday that the blaring music just carried on despite Barrett being told to stop and being made subject to a noise abatement order.

He was prosecuted by Kirklees Council in what was described as ‘one of the worst cases the noise abatement team had ever heard.’

Carol English, prosecuting, said Kirklees environmental health officers had said the volumes coming from the property were some of the loudest they had ever heard.

When the officers visited the property on June 22 music could be heard from the street and the bass from Barrett’s stereo was causing his neighbours’ floors to vibrate.

On July 22 another incident of blaring music was reported as large numbers of people gathered at the property.

Two days later the council seized Barrett’s stereo, television and a DVD player.
