Marina Kennels destroyed in suspected arson attack - with video report

A DERELICT Bradley Mills dog kennels has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

People living near to Marina Kennels watched in shock yesterday as fire ripped through the buildings, wrecking everything in sight.

Firefighters believe that the blaze was started deliberately after someone broke into the abandoned site.

Watch manager Tony Bateman, from Huddersfield Fire Station, said: “The fire was deliberate, somebody has forced entry into the compound and set fire to it.

“We have informed police that we believe this to be the cause.”

Just after midday yesterday firefighters were called to the kennels off Peace Pitt Lane.

But the blaze was well underway and the office and most of the surrounding outbuildings were destroyed.

Police kept onlookers away from the scene when it was feared that propane gas cylinders inside one of the buildings could explode.

Network Rail was informed about the potential danger to the nearby railway line, although train services were unaffected.

Firefighter Bateman said: “It was quite a severe fire. The building had timber frames and felt in the roof which made the fire spread quickly.

“When we arrived there was a lot of smoke and flames reaching up to 10 foot in the air.

“Our main concern was the cylinders as four of them were quite covered with fire when we turned up, but we managed to cool them.
