Race for little Millie who has a rare kidney condition
FAMILY and friends of a little girl whose kidneys could fail at any moment have stepped into action for her.
A 30-stong team took part in a three-armed fun race around the pubs and clubs of Crosland Moor and Lockwood to support Millie Earnshaw, who has a rare condition.
They were enlisted by Steve Earnshaw and Becky Baker, 23, whose four-year-old daughter has nephrotic syndrome.
Doctors have been unable to treat the Cowlersley girl’s potentially fatal disease.
Large holes in her kidneys mean she suffers from agonising bloating.
But determined not to give up, her mum and dad have thrown themselves into organising fundraisers for the Nephrotic Syndrome Trust, which funds research into the disease.
They organised Sunday’s fundraiser to coincide with the first anniversary of the day Millie first became ill.
The fancy dress event, which saw teams joined at the arms, started at Crosland Moor Working Men’s Club.
They took part in games organised by each venue before ending their race at the Foresters Arms, for an evening of karaoke and fundraising fun.
David Thomas, Millie’s godfather, said: “It took most of the day by the time we got round each pub, did the challenges and had a quick drink.
“We had to be tied at the arms instead of the legs because the council said that would be too dangerous – but we had a lot of fun.
“A lot of people have rallied round to help Millie and the charity.
“It’s important that people know about this condition, which is painful and uncomfortable.
