Huddersfield foundry H Downs & Sons commissions sculpture

HE’S a larger than life figure, modelled on Eric Morecambe.

And this two-tonne giant is set to become a familiar figure in his new home – outside a Huddersfield foundry.

The sculpture has been created as a novel directional sign for the H Downs & Sons iron foundry in Leeds Road.

It was commissioned by Alan and Nigel Downs, joint managing directors of the firm, which is based at Peacock Works.

The foundry turns out 30 to 40 pieces of art each year on top of the engineering castings that are its bread and butter.

Nigel Downs said: “We thought it would be both fun and informative to have something different, like a statue sign.

“Dave Bradbury has done work with us in the past so we commissioned him to do the work.
