Rastrick police and pupils join forces for a crime crackdown

PUPILS will be helping to cut the problems of speeding motorists and those who park dangerously outside their school.

Rastrick High School students are teaming up with police officers to tackle a series of concerns affecting them.

And police will be dealing with issues from safe road crossing awareness, motorists parked illegally and crime prevention during the proactive week dubbed ‘Not in my Neighbourhood’ which starts in Brighouse, Rastrick and Elland on November 2.

Inspector Mohammed Nawaz, who heads the Lower Valley team, said he hoped it would tackle crime, reduce the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

“The Not In My Neighbourhood week is a national initiative aimed at fostering a sense of empowerment in local communities and raising awareness among the local community of what the police and our partners do to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour,” he said.

“We have organised a range of activities with our partners to encourage our local communities to engage with us to promote the crime fighting work that already goes on in Lower Calder Valley.

“We also want to tackle local issues that have a detrimental impact on their quality of life – it will hopefully bring home to some people how their activities and behaviour impacts on others.”
