Lindley cyclist raises money for Kirkwood Hospice in memory of his late father

NIGEL Watson cycled hundreds of miles to raise money for the hospice which cared for his dying father.

The Lindley man rode from Huddersfield to Belgium, raising £2,500 for Kirkwood Hospice.

His father Keith died of cancer at the hospice in January aged 75.

Nigel, 44, said: “They did so much to care for my dad and support my mum. I wanted to give something back.”

He presented a £2,500 cheque to Kirkwood Hospice. Nigel, who works as a joiner, cycled from the hospice to Belgian hostel Talbot House in September.

He said: “My parents used to work as wardens there. Talbot House is an historic place, it was used by soldiers as a religious retreat during the First World War.”

Nigel took five days to complete the 350-mile ride. He said: “I picked a route along B roads which weren’t congested. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”.”
