Thousands of people support charity at this weekend’s bonfire and firework displays

THOUSANDS of people turned out for the region’s biggest bonfire and firework displays – raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Spectators of all ages watched the sky – and tonnes of wood – light up at Huddersfield Pendragon Club bonfire, Crosland Moor, and Holmfirth Rotary Club bonfire, Sands Rec, Holmfirth on Saturday night.

And the events raised thousands of pounds for charities which will be chosen later in the year.

Drizzle failed to extinguish the fun as families got together to watch the professional firework displays and warmed themselves next to giant bonfires.

Both charity events, run annually by both benevolent societies, included a mini fun fair and other entertainment.

Huddersfield Pendragon vice-chairman Jonathan Turton said: “It’s been going so long it’s become like an institution.
