THE final countdown is underway to Huddersfield’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Film star Patrick Stewart will join Huddersfield Giants to turn on the town centre Christmas lights tomorrow (nov 19).
The former star of X-Men and Star Trek will switch on the lights at Huddersfield Piazza at 6.15pm.
Mirfield-born Stewart – whose first job was a journalist for the Mirfield Reporter – has long-standing links with neighbouring Huddersfield as chancellor of Huddersfield University.
This year sees £100,000 of brand new lights from Lockwood firm KD Decoratives which have already impressed town centre traders.
The evening fun starts at 4.45pm with entertainment including Thomas Milner from the BBC hit series Waterloo Road.
Tom, who was born at nearby Northowram in Calderdale, has played student Paul Langley in the Rochdale-based school drama since 2007.
Milner will this time showcase his singing talents as opposed to his better-known acting ability.
Earlier in the evening young star-in-the-making Denon James, of Leeds Road, Huddersfield, will wow the crowds with his street dancing skills.
Denon impressed the judges with his body popping to a remix of Michael Jackson songs at the Forget Me Not Factor talent contest.
