Second day of rail chaos blights Huddersfield commuters

COMMUTERS faced misery as train services were disrupted for a second day.

Chaos on the lines – including a train derailment, cable theft and flooding – left passengers coping with long delays throughout the day.

A train derailment near Leeds on Tuesday was still causing massive delays for Huddersfield travellers yesterday.

Engineers were drafted in to carry out emergency repairs on the lines after the low speed crash of two empty trains at the Neville Hill depot.

Services between Leeds and York were significantly disrupted as the emergency work was carried out.

Passengers travelling to Huddersfield from Manchester yesterday saw several trains cancelled. Staff at Huddersfield Railway Station said services had been delayed and cancelled throughout the day.

A cable theft in the Manchester area delayed services further yesterday while flooding in the Calder Valley area brought some services to a halt.
