Joy for Alanna and Glynn as they welcome home baby Maison

A GOLCAR couple who set-up a maternity campaign after their first baby died tragically have welcomed home their new son.

The safe arrival of tiny Maison Bates marks an end to nine months of anguish for parents Alanna Delahaye and Glynn Bates.

The anxious couple, of Coombe Road, faced a worrying pregnancy after their firstborn Maisie died two days after her birth in September 2008.

Their heartbreak prompted them to launch the Move our Maternity Services (MOMS) campaign, to fight for full maternity services to be reinstated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Today, they can breathe a sigh of relief as they cuddle little Maison in their arms.

The tot was born by planned caesarean at Calderdale Royal Hospital on Remembrance Day, weighing 5lb 2oz.

But their joy cannot help be tinged with sadness, as they remember the little girl they lost.

And as a tribute, the couple have chosen to include her name within Maison’s as a touching reminder.

Alanna said: “We liked the name Mason anyway and we thought by adding an ‘i’ it would make it a bit like Maisie so he will always have a bit of his sister in him.

“It doesn’t change what happened but it is nice to have him here safely.

“We have been through eight months of trauma and worry.

“It has been horrendous.

“We were panicking going in to have him. I was absolutely terrified but it was fine and not as bad as I thought.

“The care I have received in Calderdale was really good too – it is just a shame it is in the wrong place.”
