The Damed United author David Peace on fame, film and Huddersfield Town beating Leeds United

“I remember wearing my ‘Coal not dole’ sticker.

“I wrote that book out of anger and guilt over what happened to the miners.

“When I came to researching it I realised I didn’t have any comprehension of the forces against the miners and the sacrifices that had been made.”

Although Peace is best known for his book about Brian Clough’s Leeds United, he is most definitely a Terrier at heart.

He said it had still been a struggle to get to games but he was very happy with manager Lee Clark.

He added: “I went to see them play Southampton and win and then a very dismal draw against Brentford at the start of the blip.

“But Tuesday night aside I think the blip is over.

“I still think they could get one of the automatic places.”

And with just over a week until Town’s key game against Leeds he said he would try and get down to Elland Road.

“We got six points against them last season. If you figure those six points in this season, we could be challenging.”
