But with support he has received from across the board, he feels he has all the motivation he needs to get to his best.

“To be honest, I didn’t think I had that much support out there,” he said.

“My teammates and coaching staff have obviously been right behind me, which has been a tremendous help, but the fans have also been incredible.

“I have received lots of well-wishes in cards from them as well as other messages of support, and for that I can’t thank them enough.

“It really has been a massive help, not just for me, but also for Vanessa.

“It must have been really tough for while I’ve been ill, particularly as she is pregnant.

“But she has been my rock. Fortunately she is one tough lady and, even though she has been through so much, she has always been so supportive.

“Hopefully we can start to put all this behind us. Our baby is due on January 10 and we now can’t wait for our baby to enter this world.”
