Record rainfall in Huddersfield this November - and more to come
IT’S been one of the soggiest Novembers on record.
Rainfall across Huddersfield last month has been well above the average for figures since 1961.
And the gloomy news for people in Huddersfield was that there is more rain on the way.
Yorkshire Water’s Blackmoorfoot station recorded 143mm of rain from November 1 to November 22.
The amount, with the heavy rain of the last few days not included, is well above the average 132mm for the whole of November taken from 1961 to 1990 figures.
Local weatherman Paul Stevens said more rain and flooding is likely in December.
He said: “Through this month the weather looks unsettled.
“There’s a possibility of quite strong winds and rain and further flooding.
“The month will start off fairly mild and then we will start to see some cooling.
“Towards the end of the month we will see our first real blast of cold air.”
This weekend many areas saw the first flurries of snow including Oakes, Outlane, Meltham and Marsden.
Linthwaite reader Chrissy Eastwood captured some of the glories of the snow in photos taken at Chain Road, Marsden.
Salendine Nook meteorologist Mr Stevens told the Examiner there was a 30% chance of a white Christmas this year.
