Ruddi Waterworth-Jones set for life-changing journey
Dec 5 2009 by Sam Casey, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
He is going to Jacksonville for highly expensive proton therapy which is unavailable in the UK, but it will be funded by the NHS.
The treatment, which involves firing a beam of protons at tumours so they receive a very high dose of radiation without damaging surrounding tissue, is far more accurate.
Ruddi will have the treatment five days a week for seven weeks.
People from across Huddersfield have rallied round in support of the family.
They have so far received more than £4,000 in donations to cover the costs of living while they are in the USA.
Ali thanked nursery goods firm Mamas and Papas, the Royal Oak pub in Linthwaite, the Horse and Groom pub in Cowlersley and Royds Hall High School which all helped.
