Huddersfield University students stage flashmob on campus
THE music of The Village People disturbed the afternoon peace of the University of Huddersfield.
And dozens of students startled others by bursting into frenzied dancing in the heart of the Queensgate campus.
It was ‘flash mob’ time, albeit briefly, as students used cheesy music to grab everyone’s attention.
Students from the Events Management course at the University were the organisers of the ‘flash mob’ to promote the local talent show Huddersfield’s Got Talent.
The ‘flash mob’ was a one-off dance performed by first and second year students, all from the same course.
It lasted less than four minutes and was a complete surprise.
The dancers were backed by party songs such as The YMCA, Cha Cha Slide and the Macarena.
They were performed on the dot at 3.15pm, the lecture changeover time.
It was a secret known only by a select few, so when the loud music filled the courtyard outside the University library there were a few stunned faces and a good excuse to be a little bit late for the next lecture.
However, the ‘flash mob’ wasn’t just an advertisement for the social life at the university or a re-enactment of Tokyo nightclub on student night.
It was to promote the upcoming Huddersfield’s Got Talent show which will be held on February 13 next year.
