Outdoor sports spending boost for Leeds Road on the cards

CANOEING and an outdoor gym could be on the way to part of Huddersfield.
Kirklees Council’s Cabinet will decide next week whether to support plans to improve the Leeds Road area.
Proposals include two canoe launching platforms on the River Colne and a Trim Trail at Leeds Road Sports Complex.
The canoe platforms would be built off the Riverside Way path which runs parallel to Dalton Bank Road.
The £80,000 plan includes steps down to the launches and a new parking area for minibuses to drop off canoeists.
The proposal also includes upgrading a steep and eroded section of the Riverside Way leading to the Birkby-Bradley Greenway viaduct.
This would allow walkers to avoid Dalton Bank Road.
The Government has committed £30,000 to the plan through its Youth Capital Grant.
Kirklees Council’s Cabinet will decide on Tuesday whether to provide the remaining £50,000.
The Kirklees Cabinet will also decide whether to put aside £50,000 for a Trim Trail at Leeds Road Sports Complex.
The trails are pathways with outdoor gym equipment placed along the route, including some for people with disabilities.
