Three escape car blaze on Calderdale Way near Elland

A GROUP of revellers’ New Year’s Eve night out ended before it could even begin.

The three – two men and a woman – were in a car which caught fire while they were on their way out at 10pm on Thursday.

Crew manager Gary Butcher from Elland fire station said: “They were driving down Calderdale Way from Huddersfield for a night out in Halifax when they smelled smoke.

“They stopped, got out and the car then burst into flames.’’
