Huddersfield girls get set for grudge match as part of Leeds Roller Dolls
IT’S fast, dangerous and you have to know your blockers and pivots from your jammers.
Welcome to roller derby and the Huddersfield girls taking it by storm.
The all-female “Leeds Roller Dolls” league is growing increasingly popular and Huddersfield will be well represented when the “Rotten Rollers” meet Birmingham’s Central City Roller Girls for a grudge match at the end of this month.
The high-speed sport sees players on roller boots charge around a track scoring points when key team members manage to get past opponents.
Among the Rotten Rollers will be Greenhead’s Stephanie Jordan, 23.
The assistant coffee shop manager and trainee hairdresser said: “I’ve been involved since June 2009 and I’m one of those put forward for the match on January 30.
“I loved the fact it was an all-girl sport and you could show a bit of an aggressive side without looking bad, it’s good to be strong in the game, to have power and skate fast.
“Some friends from Leeds told me about it and when I tried it I fell in love straight away.
