Friend of Huddersfield's Haiti woman Yvonne Lumb found dead

THE BEST friend of Haiti UN worker Yvonne Lumb was yesterday confirmed to have been killed in the earthquake 16 days ago.

The body of 59-year-old Ann Barnes, who had been working alongside Ms Lumb, was identified yesterday.

She died when the UN Port-au-Prince headquarters collapsed.

Ms Barnes, from Essex, was the personal assistant to the UN police commissioner on the island. She is the second Briton confirmed to have been killed in the quake.

Nothing had been heard of Ms Barnes, who had worked in Haiti for two years, since the tremor hit.

Many, including Ms Lumb, who grew up in Almondbury, had feared the worst.

The UN have announced that the bodies of 33 staff have been identified.
