A MUM whose three-year-old son’s arm was broken in a Rottweiler attack has been having nightmares about how it could have been much worse.

Three-year-old Kaden Shaw-Britton was bitten on Headfield Road in Newsome where he lives with mum Claire Shaw.

The dog remains free and lives further along the road while the Crown Prosecution Service decides whether to take any action.

Worried Claire said her son’s injuries could have been much worse and wants the dog impounded in case it attacks again.

But the police have no power to confiscate the neighbour’s dog, named Tyson, unless a court order is made.

The police have passed on the details of the incident last Thursday to the Crown Prosecution Service, which will decide if the dog’s owners should be prosecuted.

Claire, 29, told the Examiner: “Kaden has been very upset since it happened and is very wary of dogs now.

“He keeps asking me when he can have his pot taken off his arm because it hurts him.

“I’ve been having trouble sleeping and have been having nightmares since it happened.

“I’ve been thinking about what might have happened if I wasn’t there.”

Claire said she and her four children still have to walk past the house where the dog lives.

She said: “It’s bad enough walking past that house, but if I’m coming round the corner I won’t be able to see if the dog is coming.

“The gate might be open and it might be able to get out.”

The incident left neighbours scared to let their children play out in the street.

Claire and Kaden had been buying lollies from the ice-cream van when the dog struck.

She explained: “I took my boys to the ice cream van and a young girl was with the dog yards away.

“As we made our way back to the house, I made sure my children were away from the dog, but as we walked by it just leapt on Kaden and latched onto his arm.

“I grabbed hold of Kaden’s arm and pushed the dog away. The girl pulled the dog back and luckily he let go.

“Kaden was screaming and crying. I quickly scooped him up and got him away .”

The three-year-old was rushed to hospital while fearful neighbours immediately called their children back into their homes.

Kaden is now recovering at home with his arm still in plaster.

The Rottweiler remains with its Headfield Road owners.

Claire said: “I just want to know that something is being done about this.

“I’ve got a dog of my own which we’ve had for four years. If he bit a child, or anybody for that matter, I would take him to the vet’s myself.”
