AN ELLAND airman has been honoured for his duty in Afghanistan by Prince Charles.
Flight Sergeant Steve Smith – a former pupil of Brooksbank School in Elland – was presented with his Afghanistan tour medal by Prince Charles.
It was at the same ceremony that Prince William was presented with his wings by his father.
Flight Sergeant Smith is based at RAF Shawbury in North Shropshire.
He received the Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan with Clasp in recognition of his service at a ceremony at the airbase.
He is an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Traffic Control Squadron and completed a four-month tour of duty at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan in 2009.
He had the opportunity to meet the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at the ceremony.
His wife Caroline and sons Bradley and Kyle also attended.
The airman has previously served in the UK, Bosnia and Cyprus.
His family still live in the Elland and Calderdale areas.
