Plans underway on £19,000 bandstand for Beaumont Park

WORK on reinstating the bandstand and musical heritage in one of Huddersfield’s parks has been given a £19,000 boost.

Beaumont Park should soon come alive to the sound of music thanks to a development grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Friends of Beaumont Park will hold an exhibition to consult the public on the plans this weekend.

The exhibition will be open from 11am until 3pm at the park on Saturday and Sunday, with 13 exhibits detailing the work done so far. Anyone can get involved.

The construction of a permanent, Victorian-style, bandstand is the next phase in the ongoing process of restoring the park.

The £19,000 will go towards developing plans. Once this has been completed a further application can be made to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the money needed to complete the whole project.

Initially, Kirklees Council is responsible for drafting the bandstand design brief, which will apply not just to the structure itself but to all aspects of the surrounding area such as access, furniture and planting.

Meanwhile, the Friends are researching musical traditions and will be interviewing those with memories of the varied events in the park.
