Troubled Mansion nightclub to remain shut

A NIGHTCLUB at the centre of a violent New Year’s Eve party brawl is to remain closed.

Following an agreement between management of the Mansion nightclub and police, members of Kirklees Council’s licensing panel yesterday took action that means the club cannot reopen.

The club, on Beast Market in Huddersfield town centre, was shut after six people suffered stab wounds, including two who were seriously injured, in an incident in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

A fight inside the club spilled out onto the street, where the stabbings took place. An urgent review of the club’s licence, which also covered the adjoining Huddersfield Hotel, was called for and was held at Huddersfield Town Hall yesterday.

The panel decided to remove the nightclub from the licence.

While the hotel, restaurant and Palace Bar are still covered by the licence and can continue to run as normal, the club does not now have the premises licence required for it to reopen.
