Arrest over death of Adam O’Toole on New Hey Road, Salendine Nook
THE girlfriend of hit and run victim Adam O’Toole last night welcomed news of a police breakthrough.
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of teenager Adam, who was knocked down and killed by a driver who failed to stop almost three years ago.
Detectives from West Yorkshire Police travelled to Greater Manchester and arrested a 24-year-old from the Oldham area on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was brought back to West Yorkshire and questioned and then released on bail pending further inquiries.
Adam’s former girlfriend Laura Davidson said she and Adam’s family are relieved there has finally been an arrest nearly three years since the incident on New Hey Road in Salendine Nook.
She said: “I didn’t think this day was ever going to come – it is three years on since it happened.
“It’s obviously brilliant news.
“People have followed this story for so long and we’ve had great support.”
Laura said words could not describe the way she felt.
“It brings it all back – it is still very upsetting and it is never going to bring Adam back”.
The 18-year-old was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing when he was struck by a Rover car which failed to stop.
