Car driver tries to abduct teenage girl at Skelmanthorpe

A TEENAGE girl was terrified by a man who tried to get her into his car.

The 14-year-old had to run off and hide behind a wall as the man turned aggressive in the incident in Huddersfield Road, Skelmanthorpe, close to Shelley College.

Now the girl’s mother has urged anyone who may have seen the man to come forward and contact police.

The girl was approached by the man as she walked close to the college on Monday, at about 8am.

She was on her way to a school placement at a local nursery in Skelmanthorpe when the car pulled up.

The man, who had a fleece jacket pulled up around the lower half of his face, offered her a lift but then turned aggressive when she refused.

Her mother said: “He screamed abuse at her and demanded she get into the car.

“She was absolutely terrified but she managed to run off.

“She ran up the road and hid, but saw the man drive up and down the road before he drove off.”

The teenager rang home and was collected by her dad before the matter was reported to police.
