Calderdale Council to freeze councillors’ allowances for 2010/11
Feb 13 2010 by Barry Gibson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
COUNCILLORS look set to freeze their pay for the next year. Calderdale Council will decide next week if members’ allowances should remain at £10,454 in 2010/11.
Kirklees councillors have also drawn up plans to freeze their pay at £12,566 for the next financial year.
Calderdale will decide on the proposal at its budget meeting on February 17. The Rev Hilary Barber chairs the council’s Standards Committee.
She said: “Everyone is feeling the impact of the current economic climate. Many Calderdale residents will not have had a pay rise this year. As a committee, we felt it only right to recommend that councillors forego any automatic increase.”
