COUNCIL house tenants will have to pay more rent from April.
Kirklees Council’s cabinet yesterday approved a 1% rise for 2010/11.
The average weekly rent will go up by 63p to £61.40 from April 5.
Council leader Clr Mehboob Khan praised Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH), which runs council properties in the district.
He said: “I’d like to compliment the officers at KNH for their excellent management which has allowed us to set a rent increase of a third of the current rate of inflation.”
All other council housing charges were frozen for 2010/11 at yesterday’s meeting in Huddersfield Town Hall.
Garage rents remain at £4.20 a week and parking spaces stay at £3.61.
