Noisy ASBO mum Joanne Oates fined for disruption in Slaithwaite

A MUM was fined £100 after her “Hyacinth Bouquet” neighbours called the police following a noisy argument with her daughter, a court heard.

Joanne Oates, who was living at Lingards Road in Slaithwaite at the time, appeared at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Her solicitor Neil Murphy told the court that Oates wasn’t keeping up appearances on the street, where the price of a semi-detached house is approximately £125,000.

Oates, 45, who now lives at Moorbottom Road in Thornton Lodge, pleaded guilty to breaching an ASBO put in place to prevent her from causing disturbance to her neighbours.

In mitigation Mr Murphy said: “There has been a concerted campaign against Miss Oates because she doesn’t fit or her family doesn’t fit in on that street.

“Without meaning to make light of the situation it’s almost a Hyacinth Bouquet-type scenario.

“Miss Oates has a rumbustious family who are the types who call a spade a spade.
