Car break-ins in Hillhouse, Skelmanthorpe, Upper Cumberworth and Colne and Holme Valleys
FOOTBALL fans’ cars were targeted by thieves as they watched Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.
Six cars were broken into in the Hillhouse area during Town’s 4-3 victory over Walsall at the Galpharm Stadium.
There has been an ongoing problem with vehicle crime on match days.
Just last week the police issued warnings after 60 reported break-ins – many on streets around the stadium – in two months.
Det Con Dave Kinghorn, from Huddersfield CID, said drivers should take precautions.
“Remove anything of value from view,” he said. “Even the most insignificant items – small change and cigarettes – can be a temptation.”
The incidents on Tuesday night followed seven car break-ins in the Skelmanthorpe and Upper Cumberworth areas on Monday and Tuesday.
In most of the incidents CD players were taken.
And particular warnings have been issued to car owners in the Colne and Holme valleys after a spate of burglaries and car thefts.
