A POPULAR Huddersfield teacher has died.
Mr David Murgett was head teacher at Holmfirth JIN School.
It is believed Mr Murgett, who had been in the post for more than eight years, had been suffering from cancer.
In addition to his teaching career, he was well-known and respected as a sportsman.
He was a leading tennis player at Thongsbridge Tennis Club and also a runner with Holmfirth Harriers.
Mr Murgett was married with a family. His age has not been disclosed.
News of his death was broken to children at the school this week.
Acting head teacher Mrs Chris Cocker said: “We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a good friend and treasured colleague.
“We are doing everything we can to support the whole school community and our thoughts are very much with David's family at this time.”
