Were bright lights spotted over Castle Hill UFOs?

Objects spotted in our skies range from ‘a jet black diamond or triangular shaped object with an orange ball of light underneath’ to a ‘bright spherical white light’.

But some UFOs have been successfully identified.

A strange red light spotted over the Holme Valley in July 2008 proved to be nothing more bizarre than a Chinese lantern released by a Kirkburton woman in memory of her late father.

Dozens of readers from Flockton to Sowerby Bridge got in touch over the Christmas period in 2008 when more Chinese lanterns were mistaken for UFOs.

The daftest UFO ‘sighting’ the Examiner received was when one reader brought in her photograph of a bright squiggly line in the sky. It proved to be nothing more than a light trail caused by a long-exposure photo and an unsteady camera hand!

The first recorded sighting of a UFO was in 1733 when a Dorset man reported seeing a polished silver disc in the sky.
