A YOUNG actress has landed a gritty role in a dark TV film about the early years of a pop legend.
Hannah Harford, 25, of Shepley, is to make her TV speaking debut in Worried About The Boy, a drama about the pre-fame years of Boy George which screens on BBC1 this Sunday (9pm).
The film, directed by Julian Jarrod of the Red Riding Trilogy fame, will show as part of the BBC’s 1980s season.
Worried About The Boy casts Douglas Booth as Boy George from 1979 to just before his 1982 debut on Top of the Pops with his band Culture Club.
The star-laden cast includes Matthew Horne (of Gavin and Stacey) as Culture Club drummer Jon Moss, Mark Gatiss (of The League of Gentlemen) as punk impresario Malcolm McLaren and Marc Warren (of Hustle) as New Romantic pioneer Steve Strange.
In contrast to the bright lights of stardom, George’s battle to the top is played out in the poverty of squatter London during the burgeoning electro-pop movement.
Hannah, a former pupil of Shelley College, plays Sarah, a fellow squatter living with George.
