CREATIVE writers are wanted for a competition as part of Mirfield Agricultural Show.
It may be more than two months away to show day on Sunday August 22 but many of the competitions kick off this month.
The annual Mirfield Show Creative Writing Competition has prizes for short-stories and poems. There are four categories.
Up to 12s – a story or poem connected with a sport, hobby or interest (maximum 1,000 words); Up to 14s – a ghost story set in or around Mirfield (1,500 words); Up to 16s – a story with some connection, past or present, to Mirfield (2,000 words); and Open to All – a poem involving any aspect of life, past or present, set in or around the Mirfield area (maximum 50 lines).
The competition is free but all entries must be received by Friday 23rd July, with the winners announced on August 15.
The Mirfield Show Build A Scarecrow Competition will return for its second year.
Groups can make a scarecrow and complete the entry form on the Mirfield Show website and submit it by Friday August 13.
Teams are also wanted for the tug of war, and these need to register by August 13.
The children’s colouring competition has sections for boys, girls, younger and older and entries have to be in by Thursday August 19 or before 11am at the marquee on show day.
There will also be many turn up and join in competitions on the day: children’s races, welly wanging, rabbit jumping, bushtucker trials, banana eating – and the traditional horse and pony show, fun dog show, flower, vegetable, childrens, domestic and rabbit classes.
