Netherton couple celebrate diamond wedding

A NETHERTON couple have celebrated their diamond wedding.

Muriel and Bennie Dyson were married at Huddersfield registry office on May 27, 1950.

They met in Berry Brow.

Mr Dyson was working for his father at GA Dyson newsagents, while Mrs Dyson was an employee at JA Heeley’s confectioners nearby.

The couple later ran a sweets and biscuits stall in Huddersfield’s old market hall with their two daughters.

Before working in his father’s shop, Mr Dyson served in the war with the Royal Signals as a teleprinter operator.

After they were married the couple lived at Berry Brow before making their home Crescent Avenue, Netherton.

They have two daughters, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

They celebrated their special day with family and friends with a house party at their home.

Instead of presents the couple asked for donations to the Joseph Salmon Trust and they raised £300.

Joseph was their first great-grandchild, who sadly died aged three from pneumonia in 2005.

His parents Rachael and Neil Salmon set up the trust to help parents who lose children cover the costs of the funeral and other expenses.
