WORK has started on two controversial road redevelopments which sparked opposition from residents.
Clearance of a 200-metre stretch of Leeds Road in Bradley for a bus lane was approved by the Cabinet last year.
It is the first step in a plan which Clr Peter McBride said could eventually slash the journey time to Leeds by half-an-hour if it was constructed right along the route.
Work has also started in Manchester Road, Huddersfield, on £950,000 bus lane road works alongside the huge Waterfront development which is being created.
It will help prepare the access for a site of a new building for Kirklees College, 300 new homes, 190,000 sq ft offices, plus cafes, bars and leisure facilities.
On Leeds Road (pictured), resident Sheila Morrison is one of many that have expressed concern about the road widening for a bus lane.
She said: “It’s a waste of time.
“We travel on the bus all the time and we spoke to the driver, who said this stretch would save him just two minutes.
