Adam O'Toole case: Man in court on perverting justice charge
Jun 10 2010 by Kevin Core, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
A 25-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court – three years after the death of Adam O’Toole.
The 18-year-old student was killed in an alleged hit-and-run incident in Salendine Nook in 2007.
Appearing before Huddersfield Magistrates yesterday, Brett Kingsley of Cecil Street, Oldham, was charged with intent to pervert the course of justice.
He wore a dark suit and black tie.
The family of Mr O’Toole was present throughout and after the case, Adam’s mother Beverley wept and was consoled by relatives outside.
Kingsley is accused of giving a false description to a police officer of how damage came to a Rover car and submitting a false claim to the RAC.
It was alleged that the car had been involved in a fatal road traffic collision on March 6, 2007.
He did not enter a plea and was not charged with any other offences. Kingsley was released on unconditional bail.
Perverting the course of justice can only be dealt with in the Crown Court and he will appear again in Bradford Crown Court on June 16 at 9.45am.
Unusually the Examiner was prevented from photographing the defendant as he was permitted by the court to use an exit other than the front.
Adam, who lived in Holmbridge, was studying for a BTec diploma in sports studies at Huddersfield New College in Salendine Nook when he died.
