A MAN was injured in a failed armed robbery at a bookmaker’s shop.

Two robbers – one thought to be carrying a knife – burst into Timebox, in Spaines Road, Fartown, at about 5.15pm yesterday.

The masked men, dressed in dark clothing, demanded cash but were unable to obtain any.

It is thought a scuffle broke out in which a male member of staff suffered minor injuries.

The worker, who was alone in the shop before the raid, was taken to hospital shortly after the incident.

The robbers then fled on foot round the side of the building and ran off towards The Pavilion – the former home of Fartown RLFC, who became Huddersfield Giants.

A police helicopter was last night scanning the area for the suspects.

It is thought they may have been caught on a camera in the shop.

Det Sgt Paul Simm, who is leading the investigation, said: “It’s been an unsuccessful robbery.

“The men were masked and all we know is there were two males. We’re holding off on the ethnicity at the moment.

“No firearms were used but one is believed to have had a knife. One member of staff, male, received slight injuries.

“He’s in hospital and we’re waiting to interview him.

“The suspects are thought to have run round the back of the building and towards the pavilion.

“If anyone has any information I would urge them to get in touch.”
