Pupils repair vandal damage
IT was an act of vandalism that left children and staff at a Lepton School shocked and upset.
Callous intruders wreaked havoc at Rowley Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School.
They smashed up the younger pupils’ Wendy house, ripped flowers from the window boxes and flung litter all over the grounds.
But the damage has now been repaired thanks to the hard work of a group of secondary school pupils.
The pupils from King James’s School – one of the Lepton school’s feeder schools– offered a helping hand as part of their activities to mark National Green Day.
Headteacher Carol Martin said: “The pupils saw the article about what happened and were absolutely devastated that other young people could be responsible for such damage.
“They decided they wanted to come and put things right for the children and came armed with paint and brushes.”
The group of 15 pupils spent the morning repainting the repaired shed a cheerful orange and green colour, replanting flowers and replacing the smashed window boxes.
They also picked up the litter that had been discarded around the area of the targeted playgroup.
The yob attack, which happened earlier this month, was the latest in a small number of incidents at the school.
In the past vandals targeted the school vegetable garden and drug paraphernalia was left during some of the wrecking sprees.
