STRUGGLING shopkeepers need help to keep going, according to a councillor.
Kirkburton Conservative Clr Adrian Murphy last night called on Kirklees Council to cut parking rates in Huddersfield town centre to encourage shoppers to visit.
He said: “This is critical. Shopkeepers in the town are pleading with us to help.
“We should reduce parking charges and fill the car parks with workers and shoppers.
“Empty car parks are no use to us or anyone else.”
Clr Murphy was speaking during a finance debate at last night’s monthly council meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall.
