Crosland Moor gas works hit trade on Blackmoorfoot Road

A SHOPKEEPER has complained that weeks of work on a gas main are costing him business.

Chris Laws is worried about the effect of the work on trade at his Crosland Moor chip shop.

The work, which began in April, has led to a drop in customers at Park Road Fisheries on Blackmoorfoot Road.

Mr Laws said: “No-one can park round the shop because of this. They have put yellow boards and pipes down.

“I’ve lost 25% of my business because of this – it’s like a plague.”

Mr Laws, who runs the shop with wife Melanie, is worried that customers won’t come back when Northern Gas Networks completes its work.

He said: “If my customers get used to going somewhere else they will get into a new routine.”

Mr Laws has complained to Northern Gas Networks about the work which is due to finish in mid-July.

“I speak to them every day,’’ he said. “If I want compensation I have to get my accounts sorted for the last three years.
